【范文】  Who Should Take Care of Your Old Parents?   (1)Do you think it is your responsibility to take care of  your parents? In the past, when asked this question, most Chinese people  would say “yes” without hesitation.  Nowadays however, under the influence of the western ideology, some  people start to doubt this answer, thinking that maybe it should be the  responsibility of the state. As far as I am concerned, the western  system does not apply well to China. Considering the reality of the Chinese  society at present, children should still shoulder the responsibility of  taking care of their old parents.  For one  thing, it has long been a tradition for the young  to take care of their old parents. Chinese families are different from the  western ones in family size, the degree of intimacy, and the way people  interact. (2) In China there is a traditional  concept of family called “four generations living together,” which has been  handed down for thousands of years, and is regarded as a symbol of happiness.  In such a family, filial piety is the core value that helps  maintain its harmony. If someone fails to take good care of their parents,  they will be condemned by others. People of this kind would not be accepted  in any field of the Chinese society, and are doomed to be a failure.  For another, China is not rich enough to (4)emulate  the western welfare system. The reason why in the west the young do  not have to support their parents is that the old have their pension and  endowment insurance. Parents are not obligated  to support their children who have reached a certain age. Therefore most old  people have considerable savings. Things are just the opposite in China. Most  parents have to help their children throughout their lives, thus ending up  having nothing left when they themselves need support. (5)As to the government, it is busy spending money  on infrastructures and could spare little money for the old. It should be  pointed out that China is still a developing country which has so much to  do before it can stop for repose. (6)After  all, man must learn to walk before he can run. 【范文】  Real-name System for Train Tickets   (1)There is a special phenomenon in China called “Chunyun,”  which means “Spring Festival Travel.” During  this period, many people think about nothing but a train ticket, but most of  them still fail to get one. On the one hand, this is partly due to the  underdeveloped railway system and the large population of China. On the other  hand, however, (2)a large number of tickets have  been monopolized by ticket scalpers who raise ticket prices and  reap staggering profits. That’s why the real-name system for  train tickets was enforced.  The real-name system is beneficial in many ways. First of all, as mentioned above, now  that citizens have to purchase train tickets with valid personal IDs, ticket  scalpers would not easily get as many tickets as they could before. In this  way, many tickets are (3)spared for  those who really need them. Second, it happens a lot that one may lose  his ticket accidentally. In the past, since there was no record of ticket  purchaser, one had to accept the loss. Although it is still not in  practice that one can get another ticket for free when the original one  is lost, (4)we can safely hope so in the near  future. Furthermore, in case of train crimes or accidents,  passengers concerned can easily be recognized.  (5)Apparently, the  real-name system for train tickets is not without any defects.  The buying process may be slowed down since checking IDs is troublesome  and time-consuming. Conflicts may result from  people’s noncooperation. Furthermore, when boarding the train,  passengers who forget to bring valid ID certificates will (6)be denied access to the train,  which may cause them great trouble. Previously, when someone bought a ticket and  then changed the plan of travelling, they could transfer it to others in many  ways. Nowadays, in contrast, they can do nothing but go to train  stations and get the refund for the ticket.
