Passage 1
Psychology is thestudy of the mind and mental activities. For example, psychologists areinterested in why some things make you sad, but others make you happy. Theywant to know why some people are shy, but others are quite talkative. They alsowant to know why people do the things that they do. They test intelligence.
Psychologists dealwith the minds and behavior of people. Your mind consists of all your feelings, thoughts, and ideas. It is the result of one part of the brain called thecerebrum. Your behavior is the way you act or conduct yourself. Examples ofbehavior include shouting, crying, laughing, and sleeping.
Several people havebeen instrumental in the field of psychology. Wilhelm Width set up the firstpsychological laboratory in Leipzig, Germany, in 1879.Ivan Pavlov, a Russian, is noted for his experiments with dogs in which hestudied their reflexes and reactions. Around 1900, Sigmund Freud stated histheory that people try to hold back any memories or thoughts that they believedwere not good.
Psychologists shouldnot be confused with psychiatrists. Psychiatrists deal only with mentalillness. They are medical doctors who treat people.

B) Psychology andPsychiatry
C) Feelings andBehavior of Human Beings

B) dogs
C) mental illness
D) abnormal behavior
40. Thecerebrum controls___________.
A) the mind
B) the body
C) the whole brain
D) the field ofpsychology
37.B 第一段第三句说到“They want to know why some people are shy, but others arequite talkative.”
第一段第二句提到“psychologists areinterested in why some things make you sad, but others make you happy.“说明心理学家不知只是对人难过的事感兴趣,对让人高兴的事同样也敢兴趣,故排除D项。
39.B 第三段第三句提到“Ivan Pavlov, a Russian, is noted for his experiments withdogs in which he studied their reflexes and reactions.”
40.A 第一段第二句提到“Your mind consists of all your feelings, thoughts, andideas. It is the result of one part of the brain called the cerebrum.”
Passage 2
A subject that seemsto have been insufficiently studied by doctors and psychologists is theinfluence of geography and climate on the psychological and physical health ofhumankind. There seems no doubt that the general character of landscape, the relativelength of day and night, and climate must all play a part in determining whatkind of people we are.
It is true that a fewstudies have been made. Where all the inhabitants of a particular area enjoyexceptionally good or bad health, scientists have identified contributoryfactors such as the presence or absence of substances like iodine, fluoride, calcium, or iron in the water supply, or perhaps types of land that providebreeding places for pests like mosquitoes or rats.
Moreover, we can allgeneralize about types of people we have met. Those living in countries withlong dark winters are apt to be less talkative and less lively than inhabitantsof countries where the climate is more equable. And where olives and orangesgrow, the inhabitants are cheerful, talkative, and casual.
But these commonplacegeneralizations are inadequate: the influence of climate and geography shouldbe studied in depth. Do all mountain dwellers live to a ripe old age? Does thedrinking of wine, rather than beer, result in a sunny and open character? Isthe strength and height of a Kenyan tribe due to their habitual drinking of thecow blood?
We are not yet sure ofthe answers to such questions, but let us hope that something beneficial tohumankind may eventually result from such studies.

A) the importance ofenvironmental protection
B) the influence ofgeographical environment
C) different ways tokeep healthy
D) the psychologicaland physical health of humankind

D) substancescontributory to the height and strength of a person
43. FromParagraph 3 we know that geography and climate play an important role indetermining the inhabitants’ ___________.

B) life-span
C) social habits
D) diet
44.According to the author, research into the influence of geography and climateshould___________.
A) focus on someunknown aspects
B) be pursued on alarger scale
C) be carried outamong remote tribes
D) be more in depth
45. Theauthor hopes that the studies mentioned in the passage will enable us to___________.
A) generalize betterabout types of people in the world
B) find better watersupplies for inhabitants in some dry areas
C) gain insight intothe influence of geographical environment on humankind
D) live to a ripe oldage just like those mountain dwellers
41.B 从文章首句“A subject…is the influence of geography and climate on thepsychological and physical”可知,本文主要谈论的是地理和气候因素对人类心理和生理健康的影响。
43.C 第三段第二句提到“Those living in countries with long dark winters are apt tobe less talkative and less lively than inhabitants of countries where theclimate is more equable.”
44.D 倒数第二段第一句提到“But these commonplace generalizations are inadequate: theinfluence of climate and geography should be studied in depth.”

Firstly, certificate education isan indispensable supplement to current education. Extra curriculum study forcertificates help develop one's skills for future use, most of which cannot beacquired from the normal classroom study. What's more, the craze forcertificates arises from the demand of the competitive society, wherecertificates play an important part in job hunting. The more certificates onehas, the more job opportunities one will have.
In my opinion, while it is true thatcertificates are essential to one's future career, it doesn't follow thatcertificates mean everything. One's ability behind certificates matters muchmore. It is, therefore, suggested that more emphasis be put on the process ofgetting a certificate than on the purpose.
