点评2008年考研作文

一月19日下午考研英语一结束，考生纷纷来电询问今年考研英语作文事宜。现就有关问题谈一点看法。今年的作文是完全按照考试大纲的规定来命题的。
应用文是要求考生写一篇道歉信。属规定情景式作文，立论清晰，规定明确。 许多考生做了我编写的八套模拟试题 (北京航空航天大学出版社出版) ，其中第一份模拟题的应用文就是一篇道歉信：
Part A
51. Directions:
You are to inform Mrs. Benton that you will have to break the dinner engagement. Write a note to
1) express your regret,
2) state your reasons and
3) hope to meet in the near future.
Dear Mrs. Benton，
I’m so sorry to have to write you this letter! After accepting your kind invitation for dinner on Tuesday, May the fifth, I now find that I cannot be there after all.
I have just been called to Shanghai on business. Although I tried hard to put off the trip until after May the fifth, I was unable to do so. The Office Head told me that the business tour was quite urgent. A company in Shanghai threatened to discontinue buying the products we make. I was required to negotiate with it about the matter.
I have been looking forward with great pleasure to seeing you, but now I feel very bad about this unexpected development. I hope that you understand me and that we’ll meet in the near future.

按上述参考范文的思路来写，再补充一点“弥补措施”，就完全符合考试命题的要求了。
今年的大作文属漫画提纲作文，要求考生简明扼要地描绘漫画、说明内含并发表自己的看法。今年大作文的命题与去年相比有了很大的改进：在漫画下面给出了“汉语提示”，写作要求非常明确，考生无需在理解漫画内涵上绞尽脑汁，浪费时间。但是昨天仍有许多考生来电询问大作文的主题是什么？依我看，中心议题是互相协作和步调一致的重要性。有的考生写了互相帮助和团结一致的重要性，我看也可以，不能算是跑题。我记得我编写的八套模拟试题中的第四套题的大作文就是讲“互相协作和步调一致的重要性”。请看第四套题的参考作文：

Study the following picture carefully and write an essay to
1） describe the picture,
2） interpret its meaning, and
3） give examples to support your view.
You should write about 160—200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)

What a vivid picture it is! As can be clearly seen from the picture, a group of people is/are taking part in a tug of war. All of the team members are pulling at one end of a rope with effort, hot sweat rolling from their foreheads. They are full of confidence in winning the contest.
The picture means a lot to us. It teaches us that only if a group of people keep in step with each other, they will probably achieve remarkable successes. But if they get out of step with one another, they are certain to fail. So we can draw a conclusion that concerted action alone leads to victory.
There are a lot of examples to illustrate my view. Of them, the most obvious one is the case with the war on SARS in 2003. At that time the whole country was plagued by SARS. But under the leadership of our government all walks of life in the society were mobilized and were united as one. Hundreds of medical workers from different hospitals across the country took part in the battle. Many medical apparatus and instruments were sent to the epidemic-stricken areas to rescue patients with SARS. We soon won a great victory over the disease. In short, solidarity and cooperation are of great importance to us. (221 words)

Competition and Cooperation
Competition is a common phenomenon in our society. For example, we compete when we play games and when we try to do better than others in our study. There is always constant competition for jobs, fame and wealth. Therefore, we can say that, in a certain sense, competition is one of the motive forces for the development of our modern society.
It is often believed, however, that competition and cooperation are in opposition to each other. Some people stress competition, without which, in their eyes, there is no responsibility, no drive, and ultimately, no progress. Others advocate cooperation whatever they do. They are of the opinion that the dependence of people on one another has increased, without which the society we live in cannot keep going smoothly. In reality, we find that in many cases competition has much to do with cooperation. Let’s take a football game for example. During the game, one team is competing against the other, but each member of the team must cooperate with his teammates. Otherwise, they would lose the game no matter how skillful each individual player might be. It is clear that competition is closely related to cooperation.
As far as I’m concerned, I don’t agree with the view that competition and cooperation are always in conflict with each other. In my opinion, competition and cooperation are equally important. (226 words)
常言道，“冰冻三尺，非一日之寒。”看来，写作也是这样。它是一项细工夫、慢工夫的活儿。平时必须多背范文，多改写套用，勤查词典，遣词造句，组段成文。没有这样的勤奋和刻苦，要提高写作能力是不可能的。千万不要平时不努力、考前押题。望2009年的考研学生从中汲取应有的经验和教训吧。
