本期词汇：
arrest • catch • capture • take • apprehend • bust
These words all mean to stop sb and prevent them from escaping.

PATTERNS AND COLLOCATIONS
►  to arrest/take/apprehend/bust sb  for  sth

arrest [ T ,  often passive ]
(of the police) to formally stop and question sb about a crime that they might have committed
Five people were  arrested  for drug-related offences.
A person who has been arrested will often be taken to a police station, where they can be questioned further so that the police can decide if they should be released or charged  ( = formally accused of a crime ) .
► arrest  noun  [ C ,  U ]:  She was put  under  arrest .

catch [ T ]
to stop sb and prevent them from escaping
The police say they are doing all they can to catch the culprits.

capture [ T ]
to catch a person and keep them as a prisoner
Allied troops captured over 300 enemy soldiers.
► capture noun  [ U ]:  He evaded capture for three days.

take [ T ]
to get control of sb and prevent them from escaping by using force or the threat of force, especially in a war
The bank robbers  took  several employees  hostage .

apprehend [ T ] ( formal )
(of the police) to catch sb and arrest them
The police apprehended an armed suspect near the scene of the crime.

bust [ T ] ( informal )
to arrest sb for a crime; (of the police) to suddenly enter a place and search it or arrest sb
The cops busted the place frequently.
Saying that sb has been  busted  for a crime often means that they have been arrested, charged  and  found guilty of the crime in court.  Bust  is not often used in this way to talk about very serious crimes such as murder. It is often used to talk about crimes involving drugs or alcohol.
